After more than a century-long absence, golf returned to the Olympic Games this year in Rio de Janeiro, and four Taiwanese players – Cheng-Tsung Pan, Wen-Tang Lin, Teresa Lu and Candie Kung – competed in the event.

It rekindled interest in the sport in Taiwan, and Fubon Financial Holdings is building on that by serving as the title sponsor of the “Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship” for the third consecutive year in 2016. The LPGA tournament features the highest caliber athletes and the biggest purse of any professional sports event held in the country, and we hope that holding this prestigious tournament will increase Taiwan’s visibility internationally.

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has worked hard behind the scenes to help put on an international golf tournament of this magnitude. My thanks go out especially to the tournament’s honorary chairman, former Vice President Vincent Siew; Taiwan’s Sports Administration; and the LPGA and TLPGA (Taiwan LPGA) for their assistance and to our many corporate partners for their enthusiastic support.

Because of the contributions of the many organizations and partners who have made this tournament possible, Taiwan will stand out on the world’s stage this week. I very much look forward to a fantastic 2016 Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship.

Coming soon after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the 2016 Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship offers Taiwanese golf fans a unique opportunity to enjoy a top-flight international golf tournament in person, and I’m confident that this year’s event will attract widespread attention as always.

As title sponsor of the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship for a third year this year, Fubon Financial Holdings has once again given the event the group’s full backing, and this year’s championship is especially star-studded. In sponsoring this outstanding tournament, we hope to give Taiwanese golfers a bigger stage on which to perform and enhance Taiwan’s visibility around the globe.

Many companies have stepped up to sponsor this year’s tournament, and we expect the cooperation of so many premier brands from such diverse fields to bring incredible energy and a new look to this celebration of golf.

Finally, I would like to wish all of the players the best, and I truly look forward to what should be a fantastic 2016 Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship.
