Responding to Earth Day, Fubon Financial Holdings Takes Action for Taiwan’s Common Good

2026.04.22

Finance drives value chain transformation for broader positive impact

Fubon is celebrating its significant milestone of 65 years. In alignment with the spirit of Earth Day on April 22, the company will continue to uphold its mission of “Be positive All possibleTM.” Starting from its core financial operations, Fubon aims to collaborate with suppliers, customers, and the public. Through capital allocation, risk management, and community engagement, the company seeks to promote a sustainable transformation of the value chain, enabling every participant to become a part of the change.

Jerry Harn, President of Fubon Financial Holdings, noted that advancing toward a sustainable society in Taiwan requires sustained commitment from all sectors. Fubon Financial Holdings will actively connect suppliers, customers, and the broader public, leveraging finance as a driving force to support transformation and working together to accumulate long-term, positive change for Taiwan.

Fubon Financial Holdings has been continuously expanding its green investment and financing scale in recent years. By 2025, its achievements in green finance have surpassed NT$2.7 trillion, and it has further raised its target for 2030 to NT$3.2 trillion, accelerating the guidance of investment and financing customers towards net-zero emissions. In 2025, Fubon will also propose a more aggressive decarbonization timeline, clearly establishing a complete exit from the coal-related industry by the end of 2030 and a withdrawal from investments and underwriting in the non-conventional oil and gas sector by the end of 2040 (except for those that have proposed carbon reduction transformation plans in line with the Paris Agreement). This initiative aims to promote sustainable transformation within the industry.

Internally, Fubon further strengthens its sustainability culture through employee-led sustainability actions. Entering its third year, the employee sustainability program brought together nearly 100 colleagues from the holding company and nine subsidiaries in mid-April to visit the “Hsinchu Xiangshan Wetland”, a nationally significant wetland in northern Taiwan. Participants took part in the restoration of approximately 0.2 hectares of habitat for Halophila ovalis, a native Taiwanese seagrass species, and removed 238 kilograms of marine debris, translating commitment into concrete action to protect biodiversity. Externally, since 2021 Fubon Financial Holdings has promoted the “Run For Green®” tree-planting initiative, enabling the public to participate in environmental action through everyday exercise. Over the past five years, the initiative has attracted more than 406,000 participants, accumulated over 11.24 million kilometers of running distance, and supported the planting of more than 128,000 trees. Starting in the second half of this year, the initiative will further expand to integrate social care efforts, transforming every step taken by the public into a force for the common good.

Fubon Life: Creating sustainable impact in the Insurance Industry through fund allocation and engagement actions

On the path towards achieving net-zero transformation, the insurance industry serves not only as a risk bearer but also as a significant driver of long-term capital. Chen Shih Yueh, President of Fubon Life, stated that the company continues to invest in low-carbon sectors such as green bonds and renewable energy technology, setting a green finance investment target for 2030. By the end of 2025, the related investment amount is expected to exceed NTD1.99 trillion, reflecting a 10% growth compared to 2024. Additionally, the invested subsidiary, Fubon Energy, has successfully completed its grid connection, thereby injecting substantial momentum into the energy transition.

In addition to its investment strategy, Fubon Life also uses engagement mechanisms to monitor the carbon emissions management, Science-Based Targets (SBT) reduction goals, and implementation progress of its portfolio companies. Since 2021, the company has hosted the annual “ESG Environmental Sustainability and Green Procurement Supplier Exchange Conference” to collaborate with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in raising sustainability awareness. Furthermore, in 2026, the company will expand its efforts in water resource conservation. Not only has it addressed the issue of river debris for six consecutive years, but it has also launched an industry-academia collaboration project for marine conservation, taking concrete actions to support the sustainable future advocated by Earth Day.

Taipei Fubon Bank: Driving low-carbon transformation through finance to implement sustainability in industry and daily life

The flow of financial capital can guide industrial development and is crucial for promoting low-carbon transformation. Tim Kuo, President of Taipei Fubon Bank, emphasizes that Taipei Fubon Bank has long focused on capital and diverse financial instruments, combining lectures and exchanges to assist companies in translating their sustainability goals into actionable plans.

Since 2018, Taipei Fubon Bank has supported the development of more than 8 GW of renewable energy generation capacity, producing approximately 20.4 billion kWh of green electricity annually. The Bank ranks first among Taiwan‑funded banks in the number of lead arranger mandates for offshore wind power financing, and was also the first Taiwan‑funded bank to undertake syndicated loans for third‑party certified green loans, social responsibility loans, and sustainability‑linked loans. At the same time, Taipei Fubon Bank has launched green power transaction trusts and group purchasing programs for SMEs’ green electricity, and established a climate risk management system to integrate sustainability into business decision‑making. As of the end of 2025, the Bank’s green financing and investment portfolio reached NT$648.5 billion, representing 11% year‑on‑year growth, underscoring its continued commitment to promoting a low‑carbon and sustainable transition.

Fubon Insurance: Comprehensive protection for climate resilience from proactive prevention to risk assumption

In the face of extreme climate risks and industrial transition challenges driven by climate change, the role of the insurance industry has evolved beyond post‑event compensation to encompass risk prevention and resilience building. Lai Jung Chung, President of Fubon Insurance, noted that in the renewable energy sector, Fubon Insurance provides comprehensive coverage for green energy projects, including solar and wind power. As the first insurance company in Taiwan to obtain certification from the Global Wind Organization (GWO), Fubon Insurance is qualified to conduct on‑site inspections at offshore wind farms, helping to mitigate construction and operational risks, strengthen investor confidence, and accelerate the energy transition.

Beyond green energy insurance, Fubon Insurance continues to roll out low‑carbon mobility insurance products, including coverage for electric vehicles and micro electric two‑wheelers. Through natural catastrophe insurance and its proprietary risk identification system, the company helps enterprises identify risks at an early stage and strengthen disaster‑prevention decision‑making, accompanying industries and society as they move steadily toward a sustainable and resilient future.

Fubon Securities: Guiding the power of capital market to promote sustainable investment initiatives

The capital market serves as a critical platform for driving the sustainable transition. Leo Cheng, Chairman of Fubon Securities, noted that Fubon Securities has integrated ESG criteria into its investment and underwriting decisions, assisting companies in issuing green bonds and raising capital for sustainable development. At the same time, the company has established a dedicated ESG Product Section on its official website, where more than 90% of listed products meet ESG rating standards, making it easier for investors to allocate capital toward investments that generate positive environmental and social impact. By connecting corporations, investors, and the market, Fubon Securities is enabling finance to become a true force for sustainability.

In 2025, Fubon Securities achieved a green bond underwriting participation rate of 79%, with environmental sustainability projects accounting for 74% of its portfolio, and was selected for the Taiwan Stock Exchange’s “List of Companies with Better Disclosure of Corporate Governance Information” for four consecutive years. Internally, the company has simultaneously implemented green power procurement, energy conservation and carbon reduction initiatives, and operational resilience management, demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to sustainability from the market to the operational level.
