Providing carbon offsets to address climate change and mobilizing corporate volunteers to advance sports equity

The New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon kicked off in grand style today (the 15th) at Wanli Feicui Bay, drawing runners from Taiwan and abroad to experience the scenic course of “Taiwan’s most beautiful coastal marathon.” Fubon Financial Holdings continues to support sports development, partnering with the New Taipei City Government to promote a diverse and inclusive race environment while advancing the event’s green transition to create shared and sustainable value. Fubon Financial Holdings also provided carbon credits to the New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon to implement carbon offsets, aiming to raise public awareness of climate change and enhance climate consciousness through this nationwide sporting event. In addition, Daniel M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Group, once again participated in the New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon today, running in support of health and sustainability.

Richard M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, stated that the Wan Jin Shi Marathon is not only an international-level sporting event but is also dedicated to promoting sports equity and social inclusion, enabling people from all backgrounds to participate in sports with confidence. This embodies the spirit of sports equity and social inclusion, which aligns perfectly with Fubon’s “Be positive All possible™” brand philosophy. This year, Fubon Financial Holdings deployed approximately 80 volunteers to support the event, including 10 teams of guide runners for visually impaired participants, concretely demonstrating how the company and society are working together to realize sustainable values. Moving forward, Fubon will continue to support sporting events that combine professionalism with inclusivity, making sports a vital force in driving a positive social cycle.

Daniel M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Group, also participated in the Wan Jin Shi Marathon today—his second time running the event—demonstrating his commitment to promoting physical fitness and sustainability through his actions. Tsai stated that in the face of the challenges posed by climate change, companies must not only continue to reduce carbon emissions in their own operations but also leverage their influence to integrate sustainability and low-carbon principles into daily life. This year, Fubon continues to support the event’s carbon offsetting efforts by providing carbon credits, with the hope that more people will understand the importance of carbon management and environmental protection while participating in sports, and that we can work together toward a net-zero future.

Fubon has long centered its operations around four key sustainable strategies, focusing on reducing carbon emissions in corporate operations and developing sustainable financial services. The company is committed to promoting low-carbon transition and realizing the vision of "common prosperity and common good." Starting in 2025, Fubon was the first in the country to assist marathon events with carbon offsets, having already supported the Tianzhong Marathon and Taipei Marathon in offsetting event-related emissions. This year, Fubon has once again partnered with the New Taipei Wan Jin Shi Marathon to further expand its support for green sporting events. Fubon believes that sports not only promote health but can also serve as a positive force for advancing social sustainability. By facilitating carbon offsets for sporting events, the company aims to integrate climate issues into the lives of runners and the general public, making marathons an important platform for raising climate awareness.

In 2025, Fubon Financial Holdings established the "United by Purpose™" public welfare platform, actively expanding employee participation in four major categories of volunteer work: environment, finance, companionship, and event support. The company is gradually developing a long-term operational mechanism for corporate volunteering. Among these efforts, volunteer support for sporting events has become a regular practice, assisting Fubon in various marathons and sports competitions. This allows employees to engage in sports service and social participation through tangible actions, thereby creating a stable volunteer force. In terms of support for visually impaired individuals, Fubon continues to collaborate with the Zhonghua Visually Impaired Road Running Association to promote the “Visually Impaired Runner Guide Program.” Through systematic training and practical services, employees gradually accumulate experience in accompanying runners, thereby implementing the concept of sports equity at event sites. During this year's New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon, the "United by Purpose™" platform called upon employees to participate, with approximately 80 employee volunteers involved in event services. They formed 10 groups to assist visually impaired runners in completing the race safely, demonstrating the company's commitment to establishing a volunteer system that plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of events.

The Fubon Financial Holdings’ Run For Green® initiative integrates with four major marathons, including the Taipei Marathon, and designated events. Whenever runners accumulate a total of 40 kilometers, Fubon commits to planting a tree on their behalf. Since the launch of this initiative, Fubon has collaborated with 14 locations across 8 counties and cities in Taiwan, successfully achieving the goal of planting 100,000 trees. The total number of participants has reached 420,000. Furthermore, at the Wan Jin Shi Marathon in New Taipei City today (15th), Fubon Financial Holdings continued to present the popular 'Run For Green®' themed photo wall, which displays the areas where trees have been planted since the initiative was proposed in 2021. This has attracted many people to stop and take commemorative photos. Additionally, Fubon's booth has prepared sustainable interactive games, allowing both children and adults present to enjoy a break while gaining valuable knowledge and energy related to sustainability.
