The Museum earned international recognition in under two years, with Director Maggie Ueng named “Best Curator of the Year”

In addition to achieving outstanding results by continually strengthening its core financial business, Fubon Financial Holdings has also long been committed to cultural arts and public education. Since the official opening of Fubon Art Museum in May 2024, it has gained significant attention within the Asian art scene and from international professional media in just one year and eight months. Recently, Chinese Art News (CANS) announced its “2025 Best of Asian Contemporary Art” selections, naming the Fubon Art Museum as one of the year’s key institutions to watch. At the same time, Maggie Ueng, Director of the Fubon Art Museum, stood out among nine finalists representing leading art institutions across Asia and was honored with the title of “Best Curator of the Year.”

In this year’s selection, CANS specifically noted that the reason Fubon Art Museum has quickly gained international recognition is not its scale or media buzz, but rather its clear long-term curatorial direction, consistently high exhibition quality, and its success in building audience trust. The selection committee noted that such a development model is quite rare among newly established private museums in Asia in recent years. It also demonstrates that when enterprises invest in cultural public value with a long-term perspective, they can generate meaningful and enduring social impact.

At the same time, in the final round of voting conducted by CANS, Maggie Ueng, Director of Fubon Art Museum, received an overwhelming majority of votes from the jury, earning the title of “Best Curator of the Year.” The museum was also recognized as the "Most Popular Contemporary Private Art Museum in Taiwan." The review noted that her role extends beyond managing the museum’s operations. She also serves as a cultural curator who maintains a stable equilibrium among scholarly curation, international collaboration, and public engagement. This balanced approach has enabled the newly established museum to gain rapid recognition from both audiences and professionals.

Richard M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, stated that Fubon has long supported the development of arts and culture. As early as 1997, it established an art foundation with the founding principles of “sharing” and “education,” aspiring to make art an integral part of daily life. Looking ahead to 2026, Fubon Financial Holdings will continue to support Fubon Art Museum in further elevating its curatorial vision and strengthening its role as a public cultural institution. “The museum is currently presenting three major exhibitions of the year—"Into Eternity”, “Resonance”, and the Sanyu Collection.” The three major exhibitions share a common theme of "light," guiding the audience on an artistic journey that begins with existence and returns to the self, providing a comprehensive overview of significant contexts in modern and contemporary art.

The exhibition “Into Eternity” explores the theme of ‘eternity,’ addressing core issues that transcend generations—existence, time, movement, and spirituality. The exhibition layout guides visitors sequentially into the creative worlds of Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró, and Alexander Calder, revealing the dialogues among their works and the profound bonds that connected the three artists. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to showcase the diversity of Miró’s artistic practice across multiple media, including the bronze sculpture “Personnage”—presented for the first time in Asia—and a monumental tapestry that has never before been shown in Taiwan. The CEO of the Fondation Maeght visited the exhibition in Taiwan and expressed great admiration, stating that the sculptures originally displayed outdoors seemed to have been given new life within the exhibition space. He remarked that audiences can now appreciate these precious original works up close without having to travel abroad.

“Resonance” and the “Sanyu Collection” guide visitors to discover an inner radiance through a rich selection of modern and contemporary works. Resonance features 22 uncommon yet diverse artistic media—including LEGO bricks, neon lights, and brass—allowing the works to shift visually as the viewer’s perspective changes, creating entirely different layers of perception. A highlight of the exhibition is Ai Weiwei’s “The Last Supper in Pink”, an impressive work nearly seven meters wide and composed of 370,000 LEGO bricks. The “Sanyu Collection” centers on Sanyu’s rare works from his “Pink Period,” which have not been publicly displayed for more than 30 years. Sanyu is regarded as one of the most important Asian modernist artists of the twentieth century. His unique visual language—merging Eastern brushwork with Western color sensibilities—has earned wide international acclaim. His distinctive and singular use of pink is especially emblematic of his artistic legacy. This exhibition features a carefully curated selection of Sanyu’s animal and floral subjects, presenting the artist’s most distilled visual language. Through his use of line, composition, and the rhythm of negative space, the exhibition highlights the delicate balance he achieved between the spirit of Eastern culture and the visual vocabulary of modernism.
