Fubon Financial Holdings actively protects the planet by consistently engaging in energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives. Since 2014, the company has supported the "Earth Hour" campaign, initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), for twelve consecutive years. This year, Fubon has collaborated with 13 subsidiaries, including Fubon Life Insurance, Fubon Life Insurance (Hong Kong), Fubon Life Insurance (Vietnam), Fubon Hyundai Life Insurance (South Korea), Taipei Fubon Bank, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong), Fubon Bank (China), Fubon Property Insurance, Fubon Financial Insurance, Fubon Property Insurance (Vietnam), Fubon Securities, Fubon Asset Management, and Fubon Futures, to participate in the Earth Hour event, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy conservation.

Richard M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, stated that the company is committed to minimizing its operational impact on the climate. By establishing the Science Based Targets (SBT), Fubon aims to achieve a 42% reduction in its carbon emissions by 2030. Additionally, the company has joined the RE100 international initiative, with the goal of ensuring that all its domestic and international operation locations utilize 100% renewable energy by 2040, as it steadily progresses towards its net-zero commitment by 2050.

Fubon Financial Holdings is actively promoting initiatives focused on "energy conservation," "energy creation," and "energy procurement" to reduce its consumption of gray electricity. The company has initiated a systematic replacement of lighting fixtures and electromechanical equipment, such as air conditioning units and elevators, in its office buildings and operational sites. Starting at 7:30 PM, Fubon independently turns off outdoor landscape lights, rooftop neon signs, and business signage to encourage electricity savings, achieving an average annual reduction of 4.4 million kilowatt-hours in recent years. Additionally, the company has progressively established nine solar power generation facilities, with a self-generated capacity of 257.5 kW. Fubon is also committed to increasing its purchase of green electricity, aiming for a total procurement of 21.618 million kilowatt-hours by 2025, and will continue to enhance its green electricity procurement in line with the carbon reduction pathways set by the Science Based Targets (SBT).

Fubon Life is dedicated to environmentally friendly operations and advancing a zero-carbon policy while broadening its low-carbon efforts. The organization executes annual energy-saving and carbon reduction policies aligned with the Science Based Targets (SBT) and RE100 initiatives. This includes increasing digital service offerings to cut down on paper use, integrating green energy sources, and proactively developing solar energy installations. The target is to fully transition to green energy by 2040. Furthermore, Fubon Life is committed to sourcing products that carry environmental labels for energy efficiency, water conservation, and green building materials. By 2024, the company plans to achieve a reduction of 5.209 million kilowatt-hours in electricity use, 31,600 cubic meters in water consumption, and a decrease of 6.07 kilograms in waste per person, thereby progressing towards a low-carbon and sustainable workplace.

Taipei Fubon Bank adheres to the principle of "low-carbon operations" by actively promoting energy conservation and carbon reduction. All branches across the country turn off their signage lights and air conditioning in ATM areas during the evening. The headquarters has also switched to localized lighting, implemented measures such as turning off lights during lunch breaks, replacing lighting fixtures with energy-efficient options, and increasing the use of green energy, all of which significantly reduce electricity consumption in operations. In 2024, Taipei Fubon Bank achieved a reduction of 7,281 metric tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 18.8 Daan Forest Parks. The bank continues to encourage various sectors to join the sustainability movement by organizing the "Fubon Green Action" internally, which motivates employees to practice sustainability in their daily lives, resulting in over 65,000 completed tasks. Externally, the bank leverages its financial influence to promote green finance, supporting renewable energy project financing, developing diverse ESG products, and expanding digital financial services.

Fubon Insurance has implemented various energy-saving measures, including turning off lights in non-operational units for one hour during lunch, replacing energy-consuming equipment, and setting automatic shutdowns for water dispensers and computer mainframes. Additionally, the company is actively promoting electronic policies and the digitization of terms, as well as remote recruitment services. It is estimated that these initiatives will reduce paper usage by nearly 280 metric tons in 2024, which corresponds to a decrease of approximately 1,185 metric tons of CO2e emissions. Fubon Insurance has embraced green energy in 2024, rolling it out to 48 business locations and its headquarters. The yearly contract for energy supply totals 3 million kilowatt-hours, demonstrating its dedication to achieving low-carbon operational targets.

Fubon Securities is committed to creating a low-carbon operational environment and is actively promoting energy conservation and carbon reduction. By 2024, the company aims to achieve a 34% reduction in carbon emissions as compared to the baseline year of 2020, demonstrating significant progress. Fubon Securities is not only planning to phase out non-energy-efficient lighting and split-type air conditioning units but is also committed to continuously purchasing renewable energy. Additionally, the company is progressively installing solar panel power generation systems at its branch offices. In addition, Fubon Securities actively offers clients an array of paperless services, encompassing online account openings and adjustments, electronic account statements, and the electronic issuance of dividend notifications, contributing positively to environmental sustainability.

Fubon Financial Holdings is not only committed to reducing carbon emissions through its subsidiaries but also actively leverages its brand influence to promote carbon reduction and green transformation in sponsored sporting events. The Taipei Marathon has been elevated to a "Gold Label" certified event by World Athletics for 2024. It has also received the first-ever global certification for marathon carbon footprints from BSI, establishing it as a "Green Marathon" of Gold Label status. Meanwhile, the WJS Marathon has been awarded the "International Responsible Sport Silver Label" and has achieved ISO 20121 certification for sustainable management, along with completing an ISO 14067 carbon footprint assessment, making it the first marathon in Asia to hold dual green sustainability certifications. Additionally, the Tianzhong Marathon has been granted a carbon label certification by the Ministry of the Environment, and during the event, local agricultural products were sourced for race supplies to minimize carbon emissions from transportation.

In alignment with the spirit of Earth Hour, Fubon Financial Holdings is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities towards sustainable management. The company also invites businesses and the public to join in addressing the issues of climate change and global warming.
