2024.05.31

The First Time in Taiwan's history, "Having Fun in the Mountains" Won the Prix Jeunesse International First Prize

Fubon Cultural & Educational Foundation's momo mini incubation program has introduced three children's programs - "Whispers", "Having fun in the mountains" (in collaboration with Hakka TV), and "Ocean Diary" (in collaboration with Public Television Service) - all of which have successfully advanced to the final shortlist of the 2024 Prix Jeunesse International. Among them, "Having fun in the mountains," co-produced with Hakka TV, clinched the prestigious "Global first prize for non-fiction category for children aged 7-10". With great happiness, Ice Leng, Director of Fubon Cultural and Educational Foundation, expressed, "This is a significant milestone in Taiwan's history, as it marks the first time we have received the top award at this internationally acclaimed children's film festival. This is a great encouragement and affirmation that Taiwan's content for children and youth has reached international production standards.”

The film "Having fun in the mountains" has received unanimous praise from judges and professionals in the field of children and youth production from around the world, achieving an outstanding score of 8.66. The judges commented, "Both 'Having fun in the mountains' and 'Whispers' truly allow us to see the children and the trust that exists between them and their teams." Prix Jeunesse International is the oldest and most prestigious children's film festival globally, serving as the ultimate platform for children's programs. This year marks its 60th anniversary, equivalent to the Emmy Awards for children and youth television programs.

This time, children's programs from 52 countries and over 255 institutions participated in the selection process, with a total of 422 entries. The selection process is divided into three stages. In the first stage, the jury selects the shortlist before the exhibition. During the exhibition, over a hundred professional children and youth program producers from around the world participate in on-site activities. They score each entry from 0-10 based on appropriateness for the target audience age, program concept creativity, program narrative script, and program production quality. The top three finalists in each category are selected based on all scores, and the highest scorer in each category wins the first prize. “The rigorous selection process is a recognition of our efforts, and we are honored to have received the support and favor of global professionals in the field of children and youth program. In the non-fiction category for children aged 7-10, "Having fun in the mountains" won first prize, while "Whispers" received second prize. In the non-fiction category for children aged 11-15, "Ocean Diary" also received second prize. We will continue to strive tirelessly to cultivate excellent program talents and content, and to find methodologies that will enable Taiwan's children and youth content industry to expand its market and connect with the world.” Ice Leng expresses heartfelt gratitude to our partners and the esteemed judging committee.

In addition to the six major awards, the film festival also features four special awards, namely the United Nations UNESCO, UNICEF, gender equality, and annual theme awards. There are also two special awards given by the International Youth Jury and the German Children's Jury. The director Kuo Hsin-Ying and producer Cookie Chen of the first prize-winning film "Having fun in the mountains" expressed “their gratitude to the children who participated in the program for their trust in the team, and they are thankful to Fubon Cultural & Educational Foundation incubation program for dedicating over three years to nurturing the growth of this program. Each teacher involved in the incubation program has been a supportive guiding force.”

“Fubon is taking Taiwan’s children and youth programs to the international stage, but we also hope to receive the love and support of Taiwanese audiences. This year's incubation program has kicked off with great enthusiasm. We welcome talented individuals who are interested in the content of children and youth to join us in establishing a successful model for the content of children and youth together.” Ice Leng extends a warm invitation to all individuals in Taiwan who are interested and passionate about content for children and youth.
