In response to Earth Hour, Fubon Financial Holdings launched a brand new advertisement today (21st) and invited Pan Cheng-Tsung, the Olympic bronze medalist in golf, to join the "Fubon Earth Team" for the first time. Together with Kuo Hsing-Chun, the national weightlifter, and Lin Chih-Chieh, a player of Taipei Fubon Braves, Fubon is appealing to the public to start with the smallest things in their daily lives and calls on them to conserve energy, reduce carbon emissions, practice green living and Run For GreenTM together with Fubon, so that the earth can run towards sustainability!
Richard M. Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings, said that Fubon Financial Holdings has been promoting the "Run For GreenTM" ESG Initiative Program since 2021, and this year it has entered into the fourth year of the program, and has continued to promote green behaviors in both financial and non-financial sectors. Since the launch of the corporate image advertisement "Fubon Earth Team - Do the right thing, you are the Earth Team! in 2022, it has been viewed more than 28 million times on Fubon Financial Holdings’ official YouTube channel Run For GreenTM, and this year, Fubon Financial Holdings has invited Pan Cheng-Tsung, an Olympic bronze medalist, to join the Fubon Earth Team for the first time. Tsai said he was honored to have Pan Cheng-Tsung as a member of the Earth Team and hoped that through his influence, he could call upon the community to become the "Earth Team" to protect the sustainable society!
"It's not difficult to turn off the lights anytime, as long as you take action!" In the brand new advertisement, team leader Pan Cheng-Tsung of “Fubon Earth Team” urges people to turn off their lights and take public transportation, team leader Lin Chih-Chieh emphasizes on low-carbon living by turning down the air-conditioner to 27 degrees and team leader Kuo Hsing-Chun promotes the use of environmentally friendly tableware. Each of the three team leaders cited small things in their lives as examples to raise public awareness of energy saving and carbon reduction, "It's easy to bring your own tableware, you just need to get into the habit of doing it!” The little green things you do in your daily life can help the earth breathe a lot, so take practical actions to do your part for the earth!
In addition, Fubon Financial Holdings has also supported the "Earth Hour" event initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) for 11 consecutive years since 2014. Fubon Financial Holdings also actively promotes carbon reduction in its operations, and continues to gradually reduce the amount of gray electricity used in its operations through the three-pronged approach of "energy saving", "energy creation", and "energy procurement". In terms of "energy saving", starting with carbon reduction in its own operations, Fubon has voluntarily turned off the outdoor landscape lights and neon lights on the roofs of its business locations and office buildings across Taiwan as early as late May 2021. Fubon Financial Holdings and its subsidiaries also turned off the lights on their own for the whole night from 19:30 p.m. The Company also plans to continuously update the LED lighting in the headquarter building and various domestic operational locations, replace old power-consuming equipment (e.g. air conditioner host, air conditioner, elevator, etc.), and internally promote the reduction of non-essential lighting in the office space and turn off the lights at the end of the work day in different districts to lead colleagues to change their behavior in electricity consumption which has resulted in an average of 2.7 million kWh of electricity saved in recent years. Taipei Fubon Bank subsidiary has further constructed an energy management system and optimized the lighting switch configuration of the building to actively enhance the energy-saving efficiency. It has also evaluated the types of leased official vehicles in accordance with the principle of green environmental protection and has reduced the carbon emissions of gasoline and diesel fuel used by official vehicles by 67 tons in 2022 as compared with that in 2021.
In terms of "energy creation", Fubon Financial Holdings has built eight solar power generation facilities since 2016, five of which are self-generated and self-consumed, with a total installation capacity of 247.1 KW. In terms of "energy procurement", Fubon Financial Holdings has signed a contract with INA Energy to import 4,391,000 kWh of green power in 2023. Starting from 2021, Taipei Fubon Bank has continued to introduce green power into Taipei Zhongshan Building, Fubon Financial Center and Neihu Information Building with a total of 2.67 million kWh of solar power per year. Fubon Financial Holdings and its subsidiaries also plan to purchase another 7.19 million kWh of green power in 2024, and it is estimated that the overall cumulative green power purchased by Fubon Financial Holdings and its subsidiaries will reach 14.251 million kWh in 2024 which will account for 13.1% of the 2020 baseline year's gray power usage.
